- How long have you been acting?
As a TV actor - 2 years
As a Theatre actor - 7 years
- How did you get into acting?
I joined Maseno University in 2016 for a Bachelors’ Degree in Music and Theatre studies with IT. That's where I started honing my skills as an actor.
- Is acting something you always knew you wanted to get into?
Coming from a society that does not view acting as a profession, I wouldn't say that growing up I knew that acting was something I wanted to get into. But since my childhood, I've always been intrigued by art.
- How would you describe the Kenyan film industry?
An industry generally blessed with untapped potential.
- What challenges have you had to navigate as an actor?
My job as an actor is seasonal hence, I can't fully commit in acting without having to pursue other side jobs. Lack of a strong union that protects my rights as an actor. Lack of enough time and resources to fully exploit my potential. My mental health as an actor is something that doesn't get as much care as it needs.
- What would you want to tell someone who wants to get into the industry?
Don't lose your artistic identity and integrity in the pursuit of fame or commercial success.
- How do you prepare for roles?
I hunt for the details that help me figure out who this character is, then lend my mind and body to the character.
- What is the most enjoyable part about acting?
You get to live many lives in one life.
- Without revealing too much, how would you describe your character in Shanga?
A young man who uses humour to escape his demons.
- What was the most enjoyable part about playing the character?
The character taps into my extroverted side which I'm not very much in touch with as compared to my introverted side.
- What was the most challenging part about playing the character?
Having to get myself into very dark places mentally.
- What do you think fans would say about your character?
That he is funny.
- Outside of acting, what else do you like to do?
I like playing in a band as a drummer. I also like playing the guitar, and football as well.
- What is next for you?
I'm currently competing in the Africa monologue challenge season 3. I'm hoping to fly the Kenyan flag highest in the Grand finale happening in Ivory Coast.
